Our search for an affordable Bali honeymoon retreat with spa and ocean view in Canggu felt like finding a needle in a haystack. We knew we wanted something special, but also didn’t want to blow our entire budget on accommodation. We’d heard horror stories about prices, and after doing some initial research, we understood why. For example, Uluwatu villas with private pools average around $180/night in peak season (July–August). That’s not bad, but we wanted that Canggu vibe. We discovered that Canggu honeymoon retreats with a spa and ocean view cost about $220/night in the dry season (June–September). This was a little more than we initially hoped, but considering the amenities, it felt like a worthwhile splurge for our special trip.

Beyond the Retreat: Activities and Budgeting

Once we nailed down our Canggu retreat, we started looking into activities. We were keen to try surfing, and found that Bali surf lessons in Kuta Beach for beginners are a steal at $35/session during low season (January–March). Since our trip was during the dry season, we knew prices might be a little higher, but still manageable. We also considered an eco-resort in Ubud for a few nights, as Ubud eco-resorts with bamboo architecture average $150/night in the lush season (April–June). We decided to stick with Canggu for our main stay, but kept Ubud in mind for a future trip. Food was another important factor. Seminyak vegan dinner spots with a gluten-free menu charge $18–$25 per person in shoulder season (May). This gave us a good benchmark for our dining budget.

Other Bali Experiences We Considered (and Their Costs)

We explored a few other options just to get a full picture of Bali’s offerings. For those interested in wellness, traditional Bali yoga retreats for women in July are $1,200 for 7 days including meals and classes. This was a bit out of our honeymoon budget, but looked incredible. We also saw that Sidanu pet-friendly hotels with dog playgrounds cost $140/night in peak season (July–August), which is useful to know for future trips with our furry friend. Finally, we looked into a unique experience: Tebali rice field cycling tours for couples are $45/person during low season (February–April). While we didn’t end up doing this on our honeymoon, it’s definitely on our list for when we return to Bali.
